The Post Graduate and Research Department of Microbiology at Sree Sankara College, Kalady, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of the college, successfully conducted an Add-on Course titled “Techniques in Biological Sciences.” The course commenced in June 2024 and extended throughout the semester, concluding in February 2025. It was designed to offer participants in-depth, hands-on training in essential laboratory techniques, effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and industrial applications. The curriculum covered key areas including microbial staining, culture techniques, immunological methods, and molecular biology techniques. Emphasizing both academic and applied learning, the course featured interactive sessions, industry-oriented case discussions, and extensive practical training. The inaugural sessions introduced participants to the principles, instrumentation, and applications of microscopy, setting a strong foundation for the modules that followed.
A notable highlight of the program was an industrial visit to KRIBS-BIONEST, Kalamassery – a startup incubation centre focused on life sciences. This visit provided students with valuable exposure to the innovation ecosystem, allowing them to engage with professionals, explore cutting-edge biotechnological research, and understand real-world applications of microbiological techniques. It also offered insights into how incubation centres nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in the life science sector. Upon successful completion of the course, certificates were distributed to the participants, recognizing their active involvement and learning. The program was well-received and significantly contributed to enhancing the practical competencies of aspiring life science professionals.
