The Department of Sanskrit, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, in collaboration with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi Campus, successfully organized a two-day national workshop titled “Samvardhini” on 21st and 22nd January 2026. The workshop focused on “Uniform Scientific and Technical Terminology for Indian Languages” and was conducted with the support and sponsorship of the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of scholars and academicians in the domain of Sanskrit-based scientific terminology and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue across Indian languages. The sessions highlighted principles of word formation grounded in Vyākaraṇa and Nirukta, alongside modern approaches to standardizing technical vocabulary. Eminent resource persons from reputed institutions delivered insightful lectures on terminology development, linguistic standardization, and practical applications in regional languages such as Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam.
The workshop was inaugurated with a formal ceremony attended by distinguished guests, followed by a series of academic sessions, interactive discussions, and hands-on training. Scholars, research students, and language experts actively participated, engaging in collaborative exercises and knowledge-sharing activities. The second day featured advanced discussions on sentence construction, semantic precision, and ongoing national initiatives in terminology creation.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory session summarizing outcomes and future directions. Participants appreciated the initiative for its academic relevance and practical utility. Overall, Samvardhini served as a significant platform for promoting linguistic unity, enhancing scholarly competence, and contributing to the larger vision of strengthening Indian Knowledge Systems through standardized scientific terminology.
