In order to understand the complexity of the ecosystems, it is quiet easy to carry out certain field works. For understanding these complexities, the Department of Environment Science & Management initiated a field oriented agriculture practice. The program was started on October 6th, we selected the area near the basketball court after that we removed the weeds. On the next day we ploughed the area so that the vegetable seedlings are planted immediately. On the following weeks students started manuring the samplings.
It makes the students sustained in the field of willingness to work as a team. Along with that the department has focused on creating self-sustainability in producing organic vegetables along with their academics. We chose vegetable varieties which have shorter duration for harvesting.
It enables the students to take care from the young ages of the seedling selection of the plant varieties according to season, how to plant, how to identify the diseases, its rectification method, the stressors in the ecosystem, harvest etc. We make sure the vegetable which is growing in our organic farm should be completely free of synthetic pesticides. For this we completely omitted the usage of synthetic chemical fertilizers and other agents.
Both the faculties and students participated in this venture as a single soul. Currently it’s our first batch of winter vegetables at this period of time. This program is a pilot study for the possible outcome of the activity & to evaluate the problems related with organic farming.
