Department of Environment Science and Management organized a two-day paid Nature Camp. The Nature camp was held at Periyar Tiger Reserve on 29/10/2024 and 30/10/2024 with 27 participants. The trip mainly aimed to experience the values of biodiversity and to understand the various conservation strategies for the conservation of Bengal Tiger, the national animal of India under “Project Tiger” programme. Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR), is one of the best maintained Tiger Reserve in India and is internationally well known for its Community Based Ecotourism Programmes.
A session on ”Biodiversity conservation and its need” by Ms. Sethuparvathy, senior research conservationist, PTR was arranged by the authorities. The talk explained the history of PTR, its goals, ongoing conservatory practices, challenges and participatory management programmes.
From the 2-day nature camp, the students could greatly benefit with regard to gaining practical knowledge about Nature and forest resources. Also, while living in harmony with the nature, the feel of the forest as well as the knowledge attained from the officials and localists were treasures for a lifetime
