Report on National Mathematics Day Celebration 2025
The Department of Mathematics, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, celebrated National Mathematics Day on 22 December 2025 in honour of the birth anniversary of the renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The celebration aimed to promote interest in mathematics among students and to recognize the significant contributions of Ramanujan to the development of modern mathematics.
As part of the celebration, the department organized two programmes: a Mathematics Quiz and a Film Screening.
The programme began with a Mathematics Quiz Competition conducted for undergraduate students. The Mathematics Quiz was conducted as a written quiz with a single round designed to test the participants’ knowledge in various areas such as fundamental mathematics, mathematical puzzles, historical developments in mathematics, and the contributions of eminent mathematicians. Students actively participated in the event with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The quiz provided an opportunity for students to enhance their analytical thinking and mathematical awareness while fostering healthy academic competition. The quiz was carried out in the first-year mathematics classroom.
Following the quiz competition, a film screening of The Man Who Knew Infinity was organized for the students. The film depicts the inspiring life and mathematical journey of Srinivasa Ramanujan, portraying his extraordinary talent and his collaboration with G. H. Hardy at the University of Cambridge. The screening provided students with an opportunity to understand the perseverance, passion, and brilliance that defined Ramanujan’s life and contributions to mathematics.
The programmes were conducted successfully with active participation from the students. The celebration helped create awareness about the legacy of Ramanujan and inspired students to appreciate the beauty and depth of mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics concluded the celebration by expressing appreciation to all the students who participated and contributed to making the programme meaningful and memorable.
