The Microbiology Association, Microxia, of Sree Sankara College, Kalady, organised an educational and recreational trip to the iconic Floating Bridge at Kuzhupilly Beach, Ernakulam, on 3rd February 2025. The main aim of this outing was to strengthen the bond between senior and junior students of the B.Sc. Microbiology programme and their teachers, going beyond the usual classroom setting. The event was a great success, offering a perfect mix of scenic views, enjoyable activities, and meaningful interpersonal interaction.
The visit was meticulously planned with the following aims:
- To Strengthen Senior-Junior Bonding:Create a relaxed and informal platform for interaction between students across different academic years.
- To Enhance Student-Teacher Rapport:Facilitate conversations and camaraderie between faculty and students outside the academic setting.
- To Promote Mental Well-being:Offer a refreshing break from the rigorous academic schedule, promoting relaxation and rejuvenation.
- To Experience a Local Environment:Provide an opportunity to experience the unique and natural beauty of the Kuzhupilly Beach and to analyse the microbial flora of the marine water.
The day began with great enthusiasm as students and faculty members assembled at the college campus. The journey to Kuzhupilly Beach was filled with anticipation and cheerful banter. Upon arrival, the stunning vista of the Arabian Sea and the unique structure of the floating bridge immediately captivated everyone.
The group eagerly walked across the floating bridge, enjoying the gentle sway with the waves—a novel and thrilling experience for many. Fun games were organised that mixed seniors, juniors, and teachers into teams, breaking down initial hesitations and sparking laughter. Informal circles were formed where seniors shared their academic experiences and tips with the juniors, while teachers offered guidance in a more personal setting.
The beautiful location offered numerous opportunities for group and candid photographs, capturing the joy and togetherness of the day. The students didn’t forget to collect marine water samples in sterile bottles for analysing the microbial flora.
The event concluded with a shared meal, where conversations flowed freely, strengthening the sense of a unified “Microbiology family.”
